Food Picks for Electric Picnic

Food Picks for Electric Picnic 2014

Since the very first Electric Picnic good food has always been a must, so much so that in 2008 the folks at the Picnic started the Electric Picnic Food Award (in association with McKenna Food Guides). It is no surprise to see last year’s winner, Kinara Kitchen on top of the list of top five favourite picnic picks.

1.       Kinara Kitchen

Kinara Kitchen is back at Electric Picnic after picking up last years award from McKenna Guide’s for Best Festival Food. Sean Collander and his team at Kinara Kitchen offer fresh and vibrant Pakistani street food cooked on a KhatAKhat (round Hot Plate) plus a charcoal BBQ for succulent spicy lamb chops, chicken tikka and nan bread fresh from our Tandoor ovens in the fields of Stradbally estate. Be sure to get there early to avoid queues but it’s worth the wait!

2.       Saba

Paul Cadden and his team bring their hip-to-the-trip van to EP, and bring Saba’s authentic and vivid Asian cooking to an eternal queue of eaters, a queue that never seems to diminish during the festival. Spicy noodle dishes and Asian curries win the picnicker’s hearts every single year.

3.       Natasha’s Living Foods

Natasha Czoper fashions the wildest raw foods to be found at the Picnic, and she and her team serve them in one of the funkiest tent destinations, a little oasis of found design and invigorating food. This year her stand includes a full raw patisserie.

4.       Stradbally Country Market honey farmers market

The ladies from Stradbally are renowned for serving one of the best breakfasts at the Picnic – their porridge in particular will banish any hangover – and all day long they fire out soulful baking and the freshest local produce, all of it from just down the road. This year will see a whole new range of producers in the market area beside Theatre of Food in Mindfield.

5.       Rathmullan House

For many festival-goers, the first port of call after you pitch your tent at EP is to head straight to the Rathmullan House food van, and get that order of linguini with crab that you have been thinking about since the last EP. The Rathmullan cart is a true classic, with 5-star food served with exacting precision, and Donegal charm.
