REVIEW: Delalicious: A Full Plate For A Full Life

Written by: Melanie May

Tipperary native, Sinéad Delahunty, is a Chartered Physiotherapist with the HSE in Dublin and she has played Gaelic football for Tipperary and her Dublin club, Foxrock-Cabinteely. She is also the gal behind the very successful food blog Delalicious and she can now add another string to her bow with the release of her first cookbook entitled Delalicious: A Full Plate For A Full Life.

Sinéad likes to keep busy so she knows the time pressure many people face when it comes to cooking food from scratch, but she also knows how important it is to fuel your body with healthy foods. Thankfully, Sinéad has mastered delicious, nutritious and time precious cooking and she is passing on her wisdom and her tasty recipes to the rest of us.

In Delalicious: A Full Plate For A Full Life, Sinéad shares over 90 flavourful recipes that have plenty of nutritional value to keep you satiated and ready for whatever your busy life may throw at you.

With the insights she’s gained from both work and sport, her food philosophy is: “Meals made from scratch with wholesome, unprocessed, seasonal ingredients.”

Therefore, you won’t find any processed foods in her recipes, all the ingredients are natural and seasonal, which is why this cookbook is perfect for summer cooking. Take for example the colourful potato salad with beetroot and almonds and the hunger-busting red pepper, spinach and brie frittata. Yes, you read that right, the recipe does contain cheese, because Sinéad knows that eating a healthy and balanced diet doesn’t mean restrictive and boring food. Cheese is in, for the win!

Sinéad’s love of making everything from scratch stems from her childhood, growing up on the family farm in Fethard, Co. Tipperary, where, she says “Pre-packaged shop-bought dinners or ready-to-go ingredients from a tin or jar simply didn’t exist… so it was completely natural for me to continue making everything from scratch.” Her farming background is also evident in her appreciation for quality ingredients.

The book is also packed full of great tips like creative ideas for leftovers, plus down-to-earth guidance on food storage, and shopping lists for cupboard essentials and seasonal additions.

There are also guides on how to divide your meal up into carbohydrates, proteins, fruits and vegetables based on your specific activity levels.

This cookbook stands out from the crowd thanks to Sinéad’s background as a sportsperson and physiotherapist, as her recipes will help your body get energised before a workout and they will help repair it afterwards. This makes this cookbook perfect for fitness enthusiasts, those who play sports of all kinds, but especially for sportswomen as there is a focus on female dietary requirements and injury prevention. It’s also particularly useful for parents of sporty children. But even if you aren’t sporty, the recipes and advice contained in this book are very accessible especially for time-starved workers and even those who aren’t that confident in the kitchen. Her recipes are very accessible.

Delalicious: A Full Plate For A Full Life is a great addition to the cookbook shelves. The advice within is based on science as well as Sinéad’s experience as a sportsperson and her recipes are healthy and full of natural ingredients that are good for your body as well as a delight for your taste buds.

Here are some “delalicious’ recipes from her cookbook to whet your appetite:
