How To Clean Your Barbeque
Tue May 12 2015
Cleaning your barbeque is one of the most important jobs of the start of summer. Here’s our definitive guide that will leave you in no question that this is how to clean your barbeque.
Get Scrubbing
- Clean the cooking surface with hot, soapy water and a sponge. Thoroughly rinse the whole surface with clean water and dry. Lightly coat all sides of the burners, rock trays, plates and grills with a barbecue – safe spray cleaner. For heavily-coated grills and racks, use a barbecue degreaser. Soak for a few hours. Clean the cooking surface with warm water and barbecue brush or wet scourer. Dry, then lightly coat with a non-stick barbecue cooking spray.
- Reposition the grills and heat until surface begins to smoke. Switch off.
- Remove any corrosion with a scourer, using a plastic one at the start and progressing to a steel scourer if needed.
Check Your Fittings
- On gas barbecues, check all fittings. If anything looks worn or split – hose, fittings, seals – replace and check the bottle is still in date.
- Make sure all connections are tightened. Test for leaks by turning on the cylinder without turning on the barbecue. Brush soapy water on connections. If bubbles appear, there is a leak.
- Replace the fat soaker in the drip tray.
Fill Your Gas
- After a refill, keep the bottle upright and drive home with the windows open.
