Rush Harbour Food Festival a Celebration of Locally Sourced Produce
“Fluirse Talaimh is Mara (Rich in Land and Sea)”
About the festival:
Building on the success of last year, Rush Harbour Food Festival is returning for the second year to showcase a host of wonderful produce from land and sea on Saturday 3rd August from 11am to 6pm.
Chef Catherine Fulvio of Ballyknocken House & Cookery School will cook up a meal that will encompass many of the local growers and producers from the area which is referred to as the “market garden of Ireland”. She will be joined by local chefs, Kelly Keogh of Whitestown House Estate and nutritionist, Clare Coleman from Feisty Ferments who will show you how to make your own home-made ferments all using ingredients grown and sourced less than 30km north of Dublin City.
Chefs:
As an island nation and coastal town we will highlight some of the wonderful seafood and rich fishing tradition of the area by our two seafood Chefs Niall Sabagoni of the Salty Buoy Food Truck and founder of Sustainable Seafood Ireland and 24 year old Ian Harford who is one of the BIM Taste the Atlantic Young Chef Ambassadors and former Chef at Patrick Guilbaud. He is currently Chef de Partie at Michelin Star Restaurant Aniar in Galway.
The timing of this food event couldn’t be better, coming on the back of the recent launch of the Fingal County Council’s new Food & Drink Policy which aims to create a sustainable and vibrant food community and the local Fingal food and drink network, Dublin Coast & Fields, will be present at the event highlighting the provenance of the participants at this one day showcase event. Fingal County has been synonymous with market growing for generations and boasts approximately 600 farms and produces 47% of field vegetables and 37% of covered fruit, vegetables and nursery plants grown in the country.
Rich in a heritage of horticulture the showcase marque will offer an artisan food market and colourful food displays from Bare Acre Farm, Feisty Ferments and Country Crest while the environment department of Fingal County Council will be present distributing brown bins and delivering the food waste reduction message which will be incorporated into the Cookery Demonstrations. Brigid O Hora of Bridey’s Wine Chat will host a food and drink pairing session in the afternoon and showcase some locally produced wines.
Community:
Food festivals are a great way to bring communities and producers together around food to learn about local produce and the Rush Harbour Food Festival takes place on the first day of the annual Rush Harbour Festival and Fingal Rush Air Show which attracts some 20,000 visitors to the town over the weekend.
Catherine Fulvio who headlines the event says “the life lesson I would like to pass on is how to cook and appreciate the importance of good quality seasonal ingredients in our lives and how to support your local community by using those ingredients”.
Timetable:
All cookery demonstrations at Rush Harbour Food Festival have been supported by Bord Bia and Bord Iascaigh Mhara and are FREE to the public and will run between 11.30am and 5.30pm with Catherine Fulvio appearing at 12.30pm.
