5 Foods To Cool You Down

Wed Jul 23 2014

Are you melting? We are. So are our kids, partners and friends. Rather than succumb to the moany-ness that heat induces, we are choosing to eat food that cools us down, from the inside. Here’s our top three:

Watermelon
Super-hydrating and filled with nutrients like beta carotene, potassium and iron, watermelon and any of its cousins are a brilliant antidote to a heatwave. It helps to treat kidney, bladder and digestive problems too, so eat away, safe in the knowledge that you are doing your body good.

Cucumber
We don’t say cool as a cucumber for nothing. The cucumber is a high-fibre treat, packaged in a dose of mega hydration. This makes it perfect for eating in warmer climes, hydrating without the hassle.

Cardamom
Long revered for its healing properties, cardamom is the perfect spice for the summer months, because it can quite literally lower body temperature while aiding digestion. Add a few pods to rice during the cooking, or crack some into a herbal tea.
