Andrew Wynne nutmost healthy snacks

As more and more people are becoming health concious it can be hard to find a snack that is tasty, healthy and natural – Nutmost ticks all of those boxes. We caught up with the creator of Nutmost, Andrew Wynne to find out more.

Can you tell us a bit about Nutmost?

We launched in May of this year with the aim of bringing a new healthier and tastier snacking product to the market. Since then we’ve had such an amazing response to the product because we’ve brought a product to the market that is ticking all the boxes for what today’s consumers want. It’s healthier, tastier, all-natural and meets requirements in terms of dietary needs such as gluten-free, paleo and vegan.

What was the inspiration behind Nutmost?

I’m really into healthy living and through my girlfriend Holly I got hooked on activated nuts which she made at home.  Firstly they tasted so much better than “normal” nuts and then I researched the activation process and realised the untapped potential and lack of availability. We can’t readily buy them here in Ireland. Nutmost was created to change that!

What makes Nutmost unique?

Activated nuts are nuts in their raw form that are put through a process of soaking and after which dehydration. Ideally we should be soaking more of our foods such as seeds, grains and pulses before eating as this process unlocks more of the nutrient potential and aids digestion of the nuts as it reduces enzyme inhibitors such as phytic acid which coat the nuts for protection in the wild. Thiscoating reduces the full absorption of nutrients for humans and make them more difficult to digest. Afterwards we dehydrate the nuts at a low heat preserving the nutrients while giving them a really nice crunchy bite.

What is your favourite product and why?

It changes actually depending on time of day! The Himalayan Salted Activated Almonds have a really clean, crisp taste and the Maple Activated Walnuts are a healthy treat that can be enjoyed throughout the day or even as a topping for your yoghurt or porridge for example. Whereas the Tamari Activated Almonds are more of a rich savoury hit or good as a savoury addition to salads.

What does the future hold for your business?

Due to the demand we’re working hard on upscaling our production levels as the process of activating the nuts takes over 48 hrs (between soaking and dehydrating) for each batch….so it’s time consuming but worth the effort considering the health and taste benefits.

Where can you find Nutmost products?

We are in a select number of Supervalu’s across Dublin, Kildare and Laois, FRESH supermarkets, Butler’s Pantrys, Select Stores Dalkey, Urban Health Ranelagh, Cocu Kitchens (Baggot St, Hatch St, Chatham St.) and select number of other independent/health stores
